PHRA's Practice Facilities

The two primary types of practice for all PHRA athletes are erging and rowing.

Erging is done on a simulated rowing machine (an ergometer, or 'erg'). PHRA owns 18 ergs which, as of December 2009, are housed at the new boathouse addition at the team's Palm River facility:

5511 E. Washington Street Tampa, FL 33619
Located about 15 minutes from Plant High, this site is accessed by taking the Crosstown Expressway to 50th Street/US41, taking a right at the base of the exit, then an IMMEDIATE left on Washington Street adjacent to the RaceTrac Gas Station.

This wonderful facility is located on a piece of property owned by the Southwest Florida Water Management District (SFWMD). The Tampa Bypass Canal Rowing Council (TBCRC) was established to promote rowing in the Tampa Bay region, and it is through a use agreement with TBCRC that we have established this as Plant High Crew's Palm River rowing facility. PHRA completed its original 3200 sq ft boathouse in 2006, and the addition in November 2009. We are grateful to SFWMD and TBCRC for allowing us access to some of the best rowing water in the state.

Upperclassmen usually drive and carpool together; underclassmen not yet driving typically carpool with other parents or sometimes with upperclassmen.
